Ralspeed were called to upgrade a series of soft starts used on large conveyors to directly unload raw materials used in the construction industry in Central London.
Material is shipped into a freight terminal close to Kings Cross Station, then unloaded directly onto a series of conveyors and transported straight to the relevant storage area or silo.
The conveyor motors vary in size from 22-75kw and functionality and reliability of the entire system are key to ensure trains are unloaded and clear the terminal on time.
The original Torqmaster 2000 soft starts were installed over 15 years ago and, as part of a previous routine service visit, an upgrade to the new Torqmaster 3000 firing card had been recommended.
As well as offering many more years of trouble-free service, the additional functionality and datalogging features will also assist in diagnosing potential electrical or mechanical problems before they occur.
The customer agreed with the recommendation, alongside a tight installation timeframe. By design, the new Torqmaster 3000 cards are a direct replacement of the old model which facilitated a quick installation performed in between deliveries, allowing the client to keep zero downtime and overall costs to a minimum.
