The team at Ralspeed are well-versed in working on projects that span the globe, including the production of panels for use on the Malolos-Clark Railway Project in the Philippines.
The Malolos–Clark Railway Project involves building an underground and elevated railway line to connect the northern provinces and the capital, Metro Manila. Once complete, it will reduce journey time between Clark in northern Pampanga province and Manila, with trains travelling at speeds of up to 160km/h.
A valued customer of Ralspeed, UK based international dewatering contractor WJ Groundwater have been awarded the contract for the ground water control for deep excavations for 2 underground stations, 2.5 km of cut and cover tunnel and the foundation piers for an elevated section. The dewatering system will comprise over 200 wells installed with electric submersible borehole pumps controlled from WJ’s unique Modular Alarmed Control (MAC) Cabins, converted 10ft shipping containers which are assembled in the UK and shipped directly abroad to assist with this venture.
At the heart of the MAC Cabin is a Ralspeed supplied the AMF (Automatic Mains Failure) panel providing distribution for our Ralspeed multi-channel pump starters, plus ancillary services.
The AMF panel detects problems with the incoming mains supply such as tolerance issues or total failure of single or multiple phases or neutral. On detection of this, a backup generator is started, and the distributed supply is switched to this source, allowing the pumping to resume. When the mains supply is re-established and proved, the changeover back to the mains is initiated and the generator is then stopped. A reliable power switchover, backup power and pump restart is essential – complete pump stoppage would quickly result in flooding of the excavation.
Ralspeed multi-channel starters have complete electronic overload and motor management protection, allowing flexibility to be used on a variety of motor sizes.
With onboard programmable inputs and timing functions also included, they provide a complete motor control solution for smaller Direct-On-Line or Soft-Start applications.
The layout of the construction site will require up to 10 No MAC Cabins each controlling up to 30 No pumps. The Cabins only require a small footprint and provide a secure and robust enclosure for the essential electrical equipment, protecting the controls from heat, dust, careless construction site machinery and not least, the infamous Philippino typhoons!
